The Russian Highways and Road Makers of the Federal Republic of Germany will Continue to Design Highways in the Russian Federation by the German and Russian standards

The Russian Highways, a State Company, will continue the cooperation with the representatives of the highway industry of the Federal Republic of Germany on harmonization of the Russian and German design standards. Such an agreement was reached at the XIV Weimar Road Symposium which was held in the Federal Republic of Germany on March 27 - 29.

A report on harmonization of the Russian and European Road Construction Standards by the example of М-4 Don Project has been delivered by Viktor Ushakov, Chairman of the Scientific and Technical Council of the Russian Highways, a State Company, and Vice-Principal of the Moscow State Automobile and Road Technical University.

It is a reminder that in 2011, on the initiative of the Russian Highways, the project of reconstruction of М-4 Don Highway on the 933rd – 1024th km section was developed according both to the Russian and German regulations. The project was developed by JSC Institute Stroyproject and ВЕВ (Federal Republic of Germany). The project specifications have recently been developed. The project documentation should be evaluated by GlavGosExpertise (the RF State Examination Main Office, a Federal Autonomous Establishment), after which the project will start to be implemented.

The Russian Highways’ representatives have also held a number of meetings with the representatives of the Federal Construction and Transport Office of the Free State of Thuringia, Engineering Chamber of the Free State of Thuringia, BEB’s Engineering Group, as well as the Bauhaus University. The parties have discussed the burning questions of road & highway design and construction, construction supervision, highways maintenance in Germany, land law issues, determination of the cost of design and construction, tender procedure, terms and conditions.

The work group of the Russian Highways has visited the tunnel constructed near Jena and contractors’ construction technology laboratories in Weimar.
