Avtodor State Company launched a large-scale special project arranged to coincide with the 75th anniversary of World War II Victory

Avtodor State Company launched a large-scale educational project arranged to coincide with the 75th anniversary of World War II  Victory and dedicated to motor roads dating back to the times of the Great Patriotic War. The history of their deeds of valor may be found on a thematic web-site about the roads of those times at http://9mayavtodor.ru/.

This informative portal offers materials on how road troops, side by side with combat troops, were winning victory, on how they were erecting bridges and river crossing sites, as well as constructing and rehabilitating motor roads.

During the Great Patriotic War, nearly 100,000 km of motor roads and over 1,000 bridges had been reconstructed, repaired and built anew. The soldiers stored and delivered over 30 million cubic meters of sand, stone and wood to construction sites. During the period from 1941 to 1945, the total length of motor roads maintained by road troops had amounted to 359,000 km.

The State Company launched a social project referred to as "The Wind of War", within the framework of which we post the reminiscences of the “winners' generation” – their stories are being retold by grandchildren and great grandchildren, to whom the grandmothers and the grandfathers used to give an account of those times. Anyone may join the project and tell not only about the battles, but also about everyday life behind the lines: digging of trenches to defend cities, removing of demolition bombs dropped down onto the roofs from aircraft, making of padded jackets, knitting of mittens for soldiers, for the front, for the sake of victory.

Over 30 posters dedicated to glorious deeds of road troops soldiers have been installed along the roads of the State Company. Series of historical programs (podcasts) about the cities and residential places located near the State Company roads may be found at https://izi.travel/ru/996e-gk-avtodor. These audio stories tell about the feat of the Soviet people accomplished during a long battle against fascist invaders. Special bulletins with QR codes are available at toll collection points (TCPs). Having read the code with a smartphone, one may proceed to downloading historical podcasts and listen to them on the way. A number of rest areas will host photo exhibitions dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the World War II Victory.

The opening of a memorial "To Those Who Died in Defense of Their Fatherland" on the 561st kilometer of M-11 Highway near the village of Myasnoi Bor in the Novgorod Region will be the most important of all commemoration events. In 1942, the fighting raged in these locations, in the course of which many soldiers of the Second Assault Workers' and Peasants' Red Army died.

“Search campaigns are still in progress in these areas, and mor3e and more evidence of the fightings are being discovered. We plan to exhibit the findings of the War period in a dugout-type museum planned to be built near the monument,” said Vyacheslav Petushenko, Chairman of the Board of Avtodor State Company.
