Weapons of ancient soldiers are found during archaeological excavations on the M-4 Don Highway in Krasnodar Krai

Archaeologists are now exploring the two largest burial hills of the Novotitar group in the Dinskaya district near Osiechka and Primaki settlements as a part of preparation of the construction site of the far-off western bypass of Krasnodar on M-4 Don Highway.

Valuable artifacts of the Early Bronze Age of the 3rd millennium B.C. were found here. Scientists were especially interested in the sling — a stone ball, cold throwing weapon. Ancient warriors put it in one end of a belt or rope, unwound it overhead and threw it as a shell. Specialists call the sling a “biblical” weapon, since, according to the ancient history, it was with the help of sling that David, the future king of Judah and Israel, defeated Goliath. Other elements of ancient tools, rings, psalia (parts of horse harness) were also found in a large mound. This mound is more than 6 meters high. Next to it, there is an ancient burial place which is not that high but longer — 60 meters.

Previously, in early June, archaeologists managed to find paired ritual burials in a 6-meter mound. Scientists suggested that the leader of the tribe was buried there. This point is reinforced by the status items — a bronze knife and two silver temporal pendants. The discoveries, in particular the stone crosier, found in the same archaeological layer, confirmed their guesses.

In another mound, archaeologists found a massive Nogai burial of the 18th–19th centuries. Nogai village was situated near the excavation site and the mound includes a part of their national cemetery.

Archaeological excavations in the territory where the future bypass of Krasnodar will be built will last until this autumn.
