Installation of Arches for Railway Overpass over M-1 Belarus Highway Completed

The third railway arch, almost 100 meters long, 16 meters high, weighing 830 tons, was mounted over the 63rd km of M-1 Belarus highway.

It was transported using heavy-duty carts. This technology was first used in Russia during construction of the Kerch Bridge. The carts can carry a load of 1,800 tons. When installing arches over the M-1 highway, the load capacity of the carts was 1,000 tons.

The launching took two days with the works being performed at night time at the intersection of existing M-1 highway. For this reason, the traffic flow was redirected to Mozhaisk highway. For the period of launching of the third superstructure, the railway traffic at the section of Kubinka 1– Akulovo was also suspended.

The section of Kubinka 1– Akulovo of the Big Ring around Moscow (BMR) enables operation of one of the largest marshalling yards in the country – Bekasovo-Sortirovochnoye. More than 100 freight trains run here daily, including up to 10 heavy-load ones. Railway workers have developed a temporary scheme for the train traffic at this section for the period of the overpass reconstruction, redirecting the trains to alternative routes.

The operation was carried out as part of the reconstruction of the 45th–66th km of M-1 highway. The regular traffic along this section of Minsk highway is planned to be launched at the end of 2021.
The works started in 2019. Road workers have performed a huge amount of work: earthworks - more than 2.5 million m3; culverts - 875 lin. m; storm sewers - more than 15 km; cement-concrete mix laid - more than 35,000 m3; asphalt-concrete mixture laid - more than 270,000 tons; lighting poles installed - more than 900 pcs; noise protection screens - more than 10,000 lin. m.; barrier fence installed - more than 70,000 lin. m.
At the moment, works on arrangement of a toll collection point at the 46th km are being performed, as well as the works on construction of back-ups on both sides of the main route of M-1 Belarus highway at the section of the 55th-64th km, construction of road junction at the 64th km, installation of lighting supports, noise protection screens, barrier fencing, road signs, marking, and other landscaping works and infrastructure development.

The traffic flows will be laid out by the end of the year. Local traffic will pass along the backup lines, with the transit passing along the main route. This will increase the throughput and improve communication between the towns of Golitsyno and Kubinka and numerous gardeners' non-commercial partnerships and settlements of Moscow region along M-1 Belarus highway.
