Russians tend to travel more by their own cars

According to the Russian Highways State Company, in 2022, toll sections of M-4 Don Highway linking Moscow to the Black Sea coast and the section of M-1 Belarus highway located in the Moscow Region were the most traffic intensive parts of the road network operated by it. Average daily traffic on M-1 Highway in the Moscow Region amounted to 25,000 cars and on M-4 Highway it exceeded 24,000 cars.

As for M-11 Neva Highway, its average traffic intensity exceeds 15,000 cars per day. The same traffic intensity is registered for the Central Ring Road.

Generally traffic intensity statistics make it obvious that supply chains have changed and that during the holiday season passenger transport traffic intensifies on M-4. A drop in cargo traffic was recorded for M-3 Ukraine Highway and M-11 Neva Highway.
Altogether, over 242 million passes were recorded by the Free Flow system and the toll collection points. This is a 13.3 % increase over the last year traffic.
