Avtodor’s representatives continue to study best practices of leading international companies

The representatives of Avtodor took part in a business trip to France with the aim of studying production processes and best practices of polymer-modified bitumen application.

The trip was organized by Gazpromneft-Bitumen Materials LLC in cooperation with French oil company Total.

The main purpose of the trip was to study production process and best practices of application of polymer-modified bitumen (PMB) under Styrelf technology of Total Company. During the trip the delegation visited Total’s Research and Development Center, including Bitumen and Asphalt Concrete Laboratory where employees of Total demonstrated equipment and techniques used to develop new bitumen materials, including those used for road construction.

The participants were also introduced to information concerning technical features of polymer-modified bitumen application, as well as concerning advanced road construction and maintenance technologies used in France.

The representatives of Avtodor visited several construction sites of А4 and А7 vehicle roads where Styrelf technology of PMB application was employed. The modified bitumen extends service life of road bed to 12 years.

The State Company devotes much attention to extension of repair intervals of their roads. For this purpose Avtodor develops corporate standards (CSs), which involve exclusive standards of materials used in construction and repair.

As an example, in 2011 the State Company developed Avtodor CS Standard 2.1-2011 “Enhanced Oil Paving Bitumens.” The Standard sets out requirements to bitumen and determines specifications of bitumen application, storage and assessment of its compliance. Unlike existing regulations Avtodor’s Standard covers all stages of bitumen life cycle, from manufacture to asphalt laying. The CS incorporates best practices and European standards.
