For several years, Russian Highways has been restoring memorial sites in historical regions along highways under repair. This year, 26 monuments, memorials and war graves were landscaped for Victory Day.
Thus, in the Lugansk People's Republic the work was carried out on the territory of three memorial sites located on the Georgievka - Rovenki, Anthracite - Dolzhansky - Dyakovo, Georgievka - Rovenki - Sverdlovsk roads. These roads pass through the settlements, near which there are memorials in honor of the fallen during the Great Patriotic War. The work is being carried out jointly with local administrations.
In Donetsk People's Republic nine memorials, monuments and mass graves along the roads Nikolaevka - Starognatovka, Shakhtnoye - Stepano - Krynka, Khlebodarivka - Golubitskoye, R-150 - Krasnovka, Volnovakha - Kirillovka, Korsun - Yenakievo, Olkhovatka - Nikishino, Uglegorsk - Kondratievka, Kirovskoye - Orlovo-Ivanovka - Rassypnoye were put in order.
In Zaporozhye Oblast, fourteen territories near monuments and mass graves located near Chernigovka - Novoroltavka - Semenovka - Basan, Tokmak - Kirovo - Zarechnoye, from Menchikury village to Dniprovka, from Grushevka to Udarnik were landscaped.
In the course of the improvement works, road builders together with specialists from local administrations cleaned the territories, cleared dry branches and brushwood, mowed grass, replaced and whitewashed curbs, cleaned the space between tiles from vegetation, and painted fences and monuments. In addition, lay-bys were installed and access areas were paved at several sites.
Preserving the memory of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War is an important part of the work to restore historical regions. Improvement of memorial sites allows not only to maintain them in a decent condition, but also to preserve the link between generations, reminding of the price of the Great Victory.
