The heroes of the Great Patriotic War were honored on the M-11 "Neva" highway
Ahead of Victory Day, a solemn flower-laying ceremony was held at the "To Those Who Fell Defending the Fatherland" monument at the 563rd km of the M-11 "Neva" highway in the Novgorod Region. The event was attended by Alexander Dronov, Governor of the Novgorod Region, and Vyacheslav Petushenko, Chairman of the Board of the Russian Highways State Company.
During the ceremony, the head of Russian Highways emphasized the importance of preserving historical memory and continuity of generations.
"Traditionally, on the eve of the Victory Day we gather here - in the place where the bloodiest battles were fought at the very beginning of the war. This monument was created by the efforts of grateful descendants so that everyone would remember the incredible price of the Great Victory. We bow before the victorious soldiers! And today our fighters continue their righteous deed on the battlefields of the special military operation. Low bow to all those who forged the Victory! Low bow to all those who are fighting for our Motherland today!", - said Vyacheslav Petushenko.
The ceremony ended with laying flowers at the monument and a minute of silence.
The memorial at 563rd km of the M-11 "Neva" is dedicated to the soldiers of the Second Shock Army, who fell in battle in 1942 near the village of Myasnoy Bor. The monument was opened in 2020 and today it is an important place of historical memory preservation, where residents and guests of the region come to honor the heroic deeds of the defenders of the Fatherland.
