About 20,000 fry will be released into rivers as part of the Adler bypass construction project

A large-scale project to build the Adler bypass is being implemented in the Krasnodar Region. It also includes activities to compensate for damage to aquatic biological resources. As part of this project, Russian Highways plans to release about 20,000 fry of Black Sea salmon (kumzhi) this year.
The upper reaches of the Mzymta River have been tentatively selected for the replenishment of aquatic biological resources. The final location of the release of fry into the natural habitat will be determined on the eve of the event in coordination with the Federal Agency for Fisheries.
The Black Sea salmon (kumzha) is a rare, endemic species. It is known for the fact that it returns for spawning to the places from where it started its journey to the sea. This way, road builders maintain the natural balance and diversity of biological species in all regions where they operate.
Artificial reproduction of biological resources, including stocking of water bodies is a part of the systematic work on preservation of natural resources. The State Company carries it out on a regular basis during construction and reconstruction of highways. For example, more than 1.3 million fish fry were released into water bodies during the construction of the M-12 "Vostok" road section from the town of Dyurtyuli to the village of Achit. In 2023, more than 1.5 million fish fry and young fish were released into the Kuban River.
Compensation measures allow to preserve nature and bring it to its natural state. The release of fry restores the ecological balance and maintains the number of various fish species.
