On M-4 Don Highway, the collision rate decreased by 20% in three years that passed after increase of maximum speed limit. This fact was announced by Sergei Kelbakh, Chairman of the Board of the State Company Avtodor at the 2nd Interregional Conference "Safe road. Design, Construction, Operation and Service" which took place on March 3 in Rostov-on-Don.
"In October 2013, when the State Company initiated amendments in the traffic regulations and on a number of highways speed limits were changed to 130 km/h, some representatives of expert community predicted an increase of road accidents on these roads. Now, more than three years later, it's safe to say based on statistical dat a: accident rate indicators on highways steadily and impressively decrease", – the Head of Avtodor reported. According to him, the traffic at some highway sections became more equable, the average speed of cars increased, and the number of accidents during this period significantly decreased (to 20%). At the same time, a consistent trend to a lower quantity of accidents and reduction of its seriousness is observed.
"In 2010, we were taking the highways under fiduciary management, and only 47% of these highways (983 km of common length in 2,083.4 km) conformed to normative requirements according to the transport and operational indicators. Today this proportion reached 70% of common length of 2,890 km). By 2020, this indicator is likely to grow to 86%", – noted Sergei Kelbakh.
The 2nd Interregional Conference "Safe road. Design, Construction, Operation and Service” took place on March 3 in Rostov-on-Don.
The main objective of the conference was to organize a maximum discussion with participation of public authorities, international and public organizations, expert community concerning the transport policy and traffic safety.
At the present time, the conference is an effective platform for forming of the consolidated suggestions on increase of traffic safety, protection of people against road accidents and its effects, improvement of the legislation in this sphere.
