Avtodor show a 21% accident rate decrease in 2013-2017

This information was reported by the Chairman of the Board of the State Company Avtodor Sergei Kelbakh at the 3rd All-Russian Conference “Safe Roads. Design, Construction, Operation and Service”.

The event was arranged at Kaluga Innovation Cultural Center. This conference was organized by the State Company Avtodor as a company dedicated to construction and development of modern highway networks.

These are high-quality highways that use smart traffic management systems through segregation of opposed streams, multiplicity, elimination of poor junctions and crossways, as well as higher speed limits. The company is also creating a network of multifunctional recreation areas offering its customers the highest standard of road services.

“The problem shall be approached in its entirety,” said Sergei Kelbakh during the conference. “We develop the roads in a manner that provides for the drivers a comfortable and safe road travel while totally excluding any potential hazards that might cause road traffic accidents. And this is a unified approach as our requirements apply to both toll roads and free roads. We must help people who are at the wheel.”

From 2013 to 2017 inclusive, accident rates on the highways of the State Company decreased by 21%, and severe accidents—by 31%. And this trend has been maintained. In the first quarter of 2018, the accident rate fell by 10%, and the number of serious injury crashes decreased by 16% as compared to the same period of 2017. Avtodor expects to decrease the casualty rates by half by 2020.

One of the key objectives of Avtodor is to provide safety on roads and ensure survival of drivers, passengers and pedestrians. The State Company implements its policy in compliance with the “National Road Safety Strategy 2018–2024” adopted by the Russian Federation to achieve a ‘zero road traffic accident’ rate by 2030.
