Vyacheslav Petushenko, Chairman of the Board of the “Russian Highways” State Company, and Mars Gazizullin, First Deputy Chairman of the Board of the State Company, reported Rustam Minnikhanov, the President of the Republic of Tatarstan, about the progress of M-12 construction on the working meeting in the Government House of RT.

Before the meeting, Vyacheslav Petushenko told to the Head of the Republic that the monument To Those Who Died in Defense of Their Fatherland had been opened on M-11 Highway last year. The monument was placed near Myasnoi Bor in Novgorod Region where the soldiers of the Second Assault Army held back the enemy in heavy battles in 1942. The famous Tatar poet Musa Jalil participated in battles, was seriously wounded and captured. Later the classic of Tatar literature was capitally punished in the Nazi dungeons.

Rustam Minnikhanov received a book about creation of the monument To Those Who Died in Defense of Their Fatherland and was shown a movie about military operations near Myasnoi Bor and the fate of Musa Jalil who was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. President of Tatarstan noted that erection of this monument was an important event for maintenance of historical memory.

Issue of construction of M-12 Moscow – Nizhny Novgorod – Kazan Highway were discussed at the working meeting. Let us remind you that the most part of the seventh and the entire eighth stage of the highway will pass in Tatarstan. M-12 will run on the territories of Kaibitsky, Apastovsky, Verkhneuslonsky, Laishevsky and Pestrechinsky districts. The road length within the republic is about 142 kilometers. After commissioning of M-12 Highway, the travel time from Moscow to Kazan will be about 6.5 hours instead of 12 hours today.

Currently, preparatory works are carried out along the entire length: erection of temporary camps, arrangement of construction sites, construction of temporary passages, preparation of production facilities and delivery of inert materials (crushed stone, sand, gravel, various mixes).

For reference:

New M-12 Highway will connect the largest regional centers and metropolitan areas (Moscow, Vladimir, Nizhny Novgorod regions, the Republic of Chuvashia and the Republic of Tatarstan) with a network of highways in the European part of Russia. M-12 will allow diverting traffic from the most loaded directions in the country – M-7 Volga Federal Highway.

The highway will become a part of Europe - Western China international transport route (ITR) with a length of 8.5 thousand kilometers.

Totally, it is planned to create about 80,000 new jobs during the M-12 Highway construction period and up to 5,000 more jobs in the operation period.
