Preparatory Work for Seversky Donets Bridge Reconstruction Has Started at the M-4 Don Highway

During this year, builders plan to dismantle the old structures of the right bridge at the 931st km of the M-4 Don Highway (the Rostov Region) and begin erecting new supports. A construction camp is being created at the work site. The active stage of the auxiliary bridge construction will start as early as in the second half of January. This auxiliary structure will be used by the bridge builders to dismantle the bridge which has been in service for more than 50 years.

The right bridge (in the direction of Moscow) was built in 1966. The passage on it was closed in 2019. The construction of a temporary bridge across the Seversky Donets was completed in the summer of the same year.  During the reconstruction of one of the main bridges (the right bridge), trucks and cars move from Rostov-on-Don towards Moscow along two lanes with the maximum permitted speed of 40 km/h. Traffic keeps running on the left bridge: drivers of trucks and cars can pass through it, moving from Moscow to Rostov-on-Don. The traffic arrangement will not change during the operation period. In 2021, bidding was held in order to select a contractor, and a contract to perform operation was signed. The project specifies the construction period of 34 months.
