At the ITLF, Russian Highways discussed the phases of high-speed road development in Russia
As part of the Transport industry committee's "Best IT Solutions for Transport and Logistics" demonstration day, Victoria Erkenova, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board for Intelligent Transport Systems and Digitalization of Russian Highways State Company, gave a speech at the International Transport and Logistics Forum in St. Petersburg.
The speech outlined the key stages of development of toll collection systems for the highway network. It should be noted that the State Company presently oversees the trust management of over 6,000 thousand kilometers of roadways. Of these, more than 3,600 km are in toll operation.
The first phase involved the implementation of a barrier tolling system, which is still a crucial component of the infrastructure on several State Company roads because of its high dependability and variety of payment options.
The second phase involved the creation of a unified toll collection platform with the "Free Flow" barrier-free system, which enables the recording of vehicle passage without slowing down or stopping
The technology is currently used on the Central Ring Road, M-12 "Vostok", A-289 and at the Pulkovskaya interchange on M-11 "Neva". About 50 toll collection frames equipped with modern cameras and sensors operate on these highways.
Even under the severe conditions of the northern environment, high vehicle detection accuracy is ensured by the employment of artificial intelligence technology.
The "Free Flow"'s environmental effectiveness was recognized separately. Pollutant emissions are reduced by more than 35% because there is no need to brake or accelerate at toll stations. This is due to smoother traffic flow and reduced time of vehicles in the active phase of movement.
As a result, Russia's development of digital toll collection systems employs a comprehensive strategy that combines tried-and-true barrier solutions with cutting-edge barrier-free technologies to simultaneously guarantee dependability, user convenience, and the sustainable growth of transportation infrastructure.
