Russian Highways has built almost two thirds of the Europe-Western China transport corridor in Russia

A round table titled "Building a Network of EAEU High-Speed Highways, Including Toll Roads: Synchronization of Plans of the Union Countries and Other Neighboring Countries, Creation of New Efficient Road Logistics Routes" was held in St. Petersburg as part of the International Transport and Logistics Forum's business program.

The event was chaired by Igor Kostyuchenko, Deputy Minister of Transport of Russia. He noted that on the basis of the State Company Russia successfully developed the institute of toll highways, and developed significant expertise in the design, building, and operation of such facilities. The outcomes of this effort are self-evident: in just 16 years, the State Company's transferred road network has grown by more than 2.5 times.

Vyacheslav Petushenko, Chairman of the Board of Russian Highways State Company, took part in the round table. He discussed the State Company's road network expansion in his address.

"We are building a backbone network of high-speed highways that will span almost the whole nation in the directions of west-east and north-south. Currently, the total length of our road network is about 6 thousand kilometers. By lowering logistics costs, seamless high-speed corridors create entirely new opportunities for businesses and drivers. In fact, the travel time from one point to another is halved," said Vyacheslav Petushenko.

The "West - East" transportation corridor is formed, among other things, by the M-12 "Vostok" highway to Yekaterinburg and further on to Tyumen. Currently, this route's high-speed roads are 3241.6 km long.   It is very popular among drivers. As a result, 172 million tons of goods were transported on this route last year, while 89 million passengers used the high-speed sections.

In his report, Vyacheslav Petushenko noted that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization  established the guidelines for the construction of the road framework within the development of the Europe-Western China international transport corridor from St. Petersburg to Urumqi (China) with a length of about 2.4 thousand km. Nearly two thirds of the road in Russia has already been finished by Russian Highways as of right now.  The State Company has provided seamless high-speed traffic with four or more lanes for 1,365 kilometers.

The State Company also possesses broad expertise in the design, building, and management of contemporary highways and man-made structures utilizing cutting-edge information systems and technology.  Among other things, these contribute to traffic control and safety.

The Head of Russian Highways emphasized that the State Company is prepared to collaborate with international partners, carry out major projects together, and exchange knowledge and cutting-edge technological solutions.   This will contribute to the development of high-speed logistics routes and expand opportunities for motorists both in Russia and globally.
