Road workers laid flowers at the monument to Hero of the Soviet Union Musa Gareev
On the eve of Victory Day at the 1198th km of M-12 "Vostok" in the Ilishevsky district of Bashkiria, representatives of the Russian Highways State Company, contractors and local residents laid flowers at the monument to the hero of the Great Patriotic War, commander of the assault aviation regiment Musa Gareev.
During the Great Patriotic War, the heroic pilot fought in the IL-2 airplane, which is rightfully considered one of the symbols of Victory along with the T-34 tank, "Katyusha" and PPSh rifle, having made more than 300 combat sorties. During the war Musa Gareev rose from sergeant to major, becoming the only native of Bashkortostan, twice awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
At the event, Favil Gildanov, a relative of the hero, presented Mars Gazizullin, First Deputy Chairman of the Board of Russian Highways State Company, with Oleg Habibullin's book "Forever Alive", with stories about 20 heroes of the Great Patriotic War based on real events, in which Musa Gareev's exploits are described.
The monument to the pilot was solemnly opened at the end of 2024. The authors of the composition were Andrei Molchanovsky, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Arts, and his son Georgy. The four-meter bronze figure is mounted on an 11-meter stele symbolizing a take-off. The composition is completed by a copper copy of the Il-2 airplane with a wingspan of 3.6 meters.
The monument was installed near the village of Ilyakshide, where Musa Gareev was born. It has become a real place of attraction for local residents and users of the M-12 highway to Yekaterinburg.
