Artificial intelligence becomes the foundation for safety and development of unmanned transportation
During the session "Artificial Intelligence in Transport: Implementation, Safety and International Cooperation" at the International Transport and Logistics Forum, Victoria Erkenova, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board for Intelligent Transport Systems and Digitalization of Russian Highways State Company, gave a speech.
The development of artificial intelligence technology, which Russian Highways has been actively pursuing since 2021, was the speech's main focus. An important achievement was the Automated Traffic Management System (ATMS).
"In this instance, traffic issues are identified using artificial intelligence: the system captures occurrences in real time, initiates the required response scenarios automatically, and enables timely action. The adoption of unmanned transportation is now based on the advancement of digital infrastructure and artificial intelligence technologies, according to Victoria Erkenova.
Currently, the highly automated vehicles move already along M-11 "Neva", the Central Ring Road and M-12 "Vostok". In order to ensure the safe movement of autonomous vehicles, these highways are outfitted with contemporary intelligent systems that guarantee the gathering and transmission of data on pavement conditions, road conditions, and potential occurrences.
The foundation for the transportation of the future is already being formed by the integrated use of digital technologies and artificial intelligence, which guarantees a high degree of safety and creates new potential for industrial growth.
