Artificial intelligence is used in every third of Russian Highways IT solutions
Vyacheslav Petushenko, Head of Russian Highways State Company, spoke at the panel session "Automation and Digital Technologies in the Road Sector" as part of the business program of the First International Transport and Logistics Forum.
Speakers and experts of the event discussed the relevance of digital solutions necessary for the advanced development of the road sector, indicators of the effectiveness of information technology implementation, as well as the creation of conditions for a safe transition to autonomous solutions and digital clones.
Vyacheslav Petushenko spoke about the key areas of digitalization. These include the introduction of artificial intelligence and the shift to the usage of information modeling technologies.
"We are aggressively making the shift to the application of information modeling technology, and we have launched a digital platform. The development of the Dyurtuli-Achit route, which is a portion of the M-12 "Vostok" highway, has already demonstrated its efficacy. Because of the digitalization of procedures, we were able to boost interaction efficiency by over 30% within a year of using the home platform.
The corporation intends to implement information modeling technology at all newly constructed facilities starting in 2026. This is a crucial need that must be met because it is mandated by Russian law. The development and application of artificial intelligence is strategic for the State Company and already every third IT solution is based on artificial intelligence algorithms", - emphasized Vyacheslav Petushenko.
Neural networks and technical road infrastructure have made it possible to monitor traffic safety, detect, identify, and notify road users of events in real time.
Today, our infrastructure is a prerequisite for the movement of highly automated vehicles (HATS) on the "West - East" transport corridor along the M-11 "Neva", the Central Ring Road and the M-12 "East" section from Moscow to Kazan. Along with the creation of responsive road infrastructure for technology projects, Russian Highways provides special conditions for the period of their establishment. With the Government's support, in 2023 and 2024, HATS were exempted from tolls as part of the Unmanned Logistics Corridors project.
Russian Highways specialists have created their own digital module for monitoring and visual control of construction sites using unmanned aircraft in the form of the online service "Aerial Inspector". It enables the receipt of recent information on the construction site from the "zero cycle" and the 24-hour monitoring in order to respond quickly and make management decisions.
The State Company's employees also created and use the laboratory of immersive technologies. It consists of a dynamic platform, control station, virtual and mixed reality systems. Potential emergency and crucial points are found and removed throughout the design phase with its assistance. Roadside service facilities and road planning concepts are assessed and tested. This ensures the safety and comfort of the Russian Highways road network.
